Electrifying, precise and deeply expressive, Vidushi Anuradha Pal is revered for her tonal beauty, rhythmic precision and live-wire stagecraft. Acclaimed by the press and leading journals as the “Tabla Rhythm Queen” and a “tabla phenomenon”, she makes the tabla sing, tell stories, heal and connect cultures.
A child prodigy performing since age nine and a first-generation musician, Anuradha challenged the male bastion of Indian percussion through courage, discipline and rare talent. Recognised by the Limca Book of Records and Encyclopaedia Britannica as the world’s first professional female tabla maestro, she rose without inherited musical lineage or institutional privilege.
A distinguished torchbearer of the Ustad Alla Rakha–Ustad Zakir Hussain legacy, her artistry is enriched by six tabla gharanas , Carnatic rhythmic insights and a university-topping Master’s degree in Music.

Across 5,000+ concerts in 40+ countries , Anuradha has carried Indian rhythm across the USA, Canada, UK, Europe, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, Africa, Brazil and the Middle East.
Her prestigious appearances include Woodstock / Pol’and’Rock, WOMAD, Royal Festival Hall London, Philharmonie de Paris, Théâtre de la Ville, BBC Music Live, World Music Institute USA, Festival Musicale del Mediterraneo, NCPA and NMACC. At landmark appearances including WOMAD and Woodstock, she performed before combined festival audiences exceeding 550,000.
Her cross-cultural collaborations span Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, A. R. Rahman, the Vienna Boys Choir, Pan-African Orchestra, Big Band Germany and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, alongside international jazz, African, Latin, EDM and Flamenco artists.

A TED speaker, mentor and international masterclass leader, Anuradha has shared Indian rhythm at institutions including Harvard, MIT, Oxford, Columbia, Cornell, Berklee and New England Conservatory.
Her educational contribution includes NCERT music-textbook review, university engagement, Learn Tabla resources, Taal Smaran and mentoring young musicians. She is also an Honorary Distinguished Professor of Practice at HSNC University, Mumbai.
Through Anuradha Pal Cultural Foundation, APCA and Sur Aur Saaz Curations, she creates festivals, wellness workshops and social initiatives that use music to educate, empower and heal. These initiatives have touched 20,000+ lives, engaged 10,000+ students, supported 5,000+ livelihoods and reached women, children, senior citizens and disadvantaged communities across India.
National Honours & Recognition
For her extraordinary contribution to Indian music, innovation and women’s empowerment, Anuradha was honoured as Bharat ki Laxmi by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and received the First Ladies National Award presented by the President of India.
She is a Prasar Bharati Top-Graded Vidushi and ICCR–Ministry of Culture Outstanding Category Artiste , and a recipient of the Maharashtra Sanskritik Puraskar, among 120+ awards, honours and citations.
